At the heart of most builds is No. 1 Western Red Cedar, prized for its rich coloration and excellent strength-to-weight ratio — a perfect base wood for strip canoe construction. Other woods — such as sapele, mahogany, walnut, basswood, and maple — are used as accents to create contrast, visual interest, and bespoke patterns in the hull and decks.
